Oh What To Do.....

So I am tired of my hair and really want to cut it shorter. The top picture is how it looks now. I think it is to heavy and needs something. Of course what I really want is to cut it short. I have picked out several different hairstyles that I like and think I could manage. The girls have a fit every time I bring up cutting my hair but I just might have to overrule them and get it cut......

Only one week and I will be on vacation. I have to work today and then I have 2 busy days off then it is back to work on Thursday for a short shift. I have to work for someone on Thur. but only for 5 hours. After I get off work I am going to meet Cassie in Burnsville and do a little shopping for Vegas. I work the the weekend and then on Monday I have another short day. I have a dentist appointment to get my crown put on so I am leaving early for that. Then on Tuesday we will be on our way!  I don't know when I am going to have time to pack. My days off are packed with things to do.
On Tuesday I am going to give my car to Adam for the day. I am having him put in a Sirius radio adapter for my radio. I am also making him change the light bulb in the headlight. Rick changed the easy one a week or so ago and now the other one went out. The one that is out now is a lot harder to get to. They can never make anything easy.
Maybe on one of those days I will have to make a hair appointment.......

Girls Night Out

Amy's hair after I braided it for her.

On Wednesday Cassie, Amy, Christa and I went up to the Orpheum to see the Lion King. I had gotten them all tickets for there Christmas gift this year. Before Amy and I left Waseca to pick up Christa and Cassie she decided that I should braid her hair. She had found a picture of how she wanted it done on Pinterest so that is all I had to go by. I think it turned out pretty good. Amy comes over at least once a month and wants me to braid her hair. I keep telling her she needs to learn how to do it is she can braid Josie's hair. After we picked up Cassie and Christa we went out to eat at Giuseppe's  in Burnsville. It was so good. We had so much left over food. I am pretty sure I am set for lunch for the next three days. We all really enjoyed the show and I am really glad that I got the tickets. It was a fun night for just us girls.
Yesterday I went to work 3 hours late since I did not get home until midnight on Wednesday. We were doubled up all day yesterday so it worked out good for me to go in late. Even with going in late I was tired so at 1:00 I decided to have some caffeine and had a coffee. I should have know better because I don't drink caffeine very often so last night when I went to bed I could not fall asleep. So I am tried again today! I think I will say away from the caffeine for now :)
I finally took the plunge and went out and got myself a i phone. I love it. I had a blackberry and I hated it, it was so slow. I had talked to several people who had the i phone and they all loved it so that is what I got. It is so much better then my old phone. I am still learning how to use it but it is pretty easy. I wanted to get it before we went to Vegas so I can check the weather etc when we are driving.
Well it is time for me to do the bank run at work so I better go.

Life in the middle of winter.

This summer I planted some herbs in a planter since I do not have a garden. When it got cold out I brought them into the house to keep for the winter and they have been doing very good. Well along with the rosemary and oregano in the planter was a few stray acorns. I thought I had gotten them all out but I guess not. This morning I was looking at the rosemary and saw trees growing! I guess a couple of the acorns decided they liked the planter and decided to grow. I was just going to pull them out and throw them away when I decided that it would be a good learning experience for Liam and Josie. This fall when we had a million acorns in the yard we talked about how the acorns would grow into trees. So today when I pick the kids up from daycare I am going to show them the trees and then we are going to plant them. Then they can take them home and watch them grow all winter and then hopefully be able to plant them outside when they get bigger.
I had to work this weekend. It sure was cold in the morning when I had to open the buildings. After having such a warm winter it is a shock to the system to be so cold again. Saturday I took off of work at 1:00 so I could go to the archery club to help out. The WAC was hosting the MAA State 18 meter. We had a record number of shooters for the 18 meter, 68 people. It was a great crowd. Rick got second place after a shoot-off with Eric Lydeen.
Sunday I had to work again. It was cold again but not as bad as Saturday. I was really glad the roads were not bad for me driving in and driving home from work. I lucked out since they turned really bad later in the night. I am also very grateful that I did not have to work today and drive on the snow and ice covered roads.
I don't have anything else exciting to say so this is it for the day.

Great Book

Okay I know it is a young adult book but it is really, really good. I have been wanting to see the movie and when I heard it was based on a book I had to read it. I am not a horse person and would not normally go out of my way to read a horse book but this one is different. It is about a horse that is sold off to be a war horse in World War one. The book is written in the horses prospective not the people that are also in the book.  Once I started to read it I could not put it down. It was so good that I found myself holding back tears while reading it. It is very well written. I cannot wait to see the movie now, I have been hearing great things about it. I also know that it is a play and it is suppose to be wonderful. I hope that it makes it's way to MN so I can go see it. So if you want a fast but excellent read pick up a copy of War Horse by Michael Morpurgo.

Here is the movie trailier, once you watch it you will want to see it too!

"Nothing is as far away as one minute ago." -Jim Bishop

Cassie was suppose to put pictures up  on Facebook from her birthday party but she did not. So for my picture today I am using a picture of a cake that I want for my birthday:)

It was Cassie's 30th birthday on Monday. And just so you know I had her when I was 10 and that is how she is 30 and I am still so young. Okay maybe that is not true but I don't know how it is possible that I have a daughter that is 30. To celebrate Cassie's birthday she had a party for her family and friends. First we all went out to eat at Santorini. It is a greek restaurant that was very good. When we got done eating we all went to Cassie and Nick's house for drinks and to visit. We all had a good time and stayed out way past our bed times. We did not get home until 2:00 in the morning. We had hopes of sleeping in on Sunday but Rick's phone rang at 8:00 so then we were both up. We were both busy all day so it really did not hit me until 4:00, then I was tired! We went to bed at 8:30 and I am pretty sure I was sleeping before my head hit the pillow. We are getting to old to be out so late!
I had yesterday and today off of work. Yesterday I went and got my hair cut and colored in the morning. Then in the afternoon I made monster cookies. I made them for the 18 meter shoot that is at the club this weekend. I put almost all of them in the freezer so we don't eat them all up. They are so good. I even made supper last night for us while I was making the cookies. Rick had to go down to the club at 6:00 to help a couple of boy scouts make strings for there bows so we had to eat early.
Today I had the pleasure of going to the dentist to have another crown put on. I now have only one tooth on the top of my mouth that does not have a crown on it. I also took Dexter to be groomed today. Poor Morgan was so sad when we left without her. Rick said she came down to the basement and just cried. She was very happy when I brought Dexter back home with me after the dentist.
Well I think the numbness is finally out of my mouth so I am going to go try and eat something.

Twelve plus years......

When I started working at Carleton they bought me  the above pair of boots. That was almost 13 years ago. I even have the original shoe strings in them.  I wear them from the time we have the first snow until the last of the snow is gone. It is usually from November through April. About the only thing I have done to maintain them is to polish them once or twice a winter and spray them with water proofing stuff once a year. I think I am finally going to have to break down and get a new pair since the soles are starting to come off . That is it for today..Later Sharon

Overcoming target panic

me shooting at the Pro-Am

Rick Shooting at the Pro-Am

Hannah (in the middle) Winning the Adult Female Freestyle
Just the word brings fear into a lot of archers. Target panic is a bad, bad thing to get when you shoot competitive archery. It comes in many forms but what it comes down to is you are not able to hold on the target when you bring your bow up. It is not easy to overcome it but it can be done if you work on it.  I have had it for about the last 5 years. Sometimes it is really bad and others I can keep it under control. In 2010 it was probably the worse. Then in 2011 I pretty much took the year off. I shot league but did not shoot any tournaments other then Vegas. Just the thought of shooting the MSAA State shoot last year sent me into a panic. Well this year has been different. For the first time in a long time I am enjoying shooting again without being totally stressed out about it. I won't say I am cured but I will say it is much better. It has been a long road to get here but it is worth it. Some might ask why I would want to even shoot archery if it causes so much stress. Well I will tell you why...... because when everything goes right and you have a great game it is so rewarding. Just like any other sport you have to put in the time if you want to be good. This past weekend we shot the IA Pro-Am and I had my best score since 2006. It was one of the most relaxing tournaments I have shot in years. I had a great time not only because I shot good but because others that I know also shoot good. Rick had his best score ever at the Pro-Am on the second day when we shot the Vegas Target. And Hannah, who had to shoot as an adult this year won the adult female freestyle class. All of us at the Waseca Archery Club are very proud of her. So I am very glad that I did not give up on archery and I am looking forward to a great year of shooting.

The Pro-Am was in Des Moines this year for the first year. We went down on Saturday morning and spent the night. When in was in Mason City we just drove back and forth. It was fun to have it someplace different. We did not get home until 8:00 last night. When we got back into town we stopped at Amy's house and picked up the dogs. They were very happy to see us. Dexter did not want to leave my side when we got home.

Today I had the day off. I lifted when I got up and then I had to take Morgan to the vet for her shots. The vet told me she has luxate patellas. I guess it means that her knees fall out of the joint real easy. He said that as long as she keeps her weight where it is now we should be okay. She weights a whole 13 pounds. He said that it is when dogs get overweight and put stress on there joints that it will give them problems. So hopefully she will be okay with it. I did some internet doctoring on it and it sounds like most dogs can live just fine with it without having to have surgery. Other then that she is a heathy happy dog.

I am suppose to be doing laundry so I guess I better get to it.

The photo shoot

The food

The truck in the lake!
I am way behind on my updates! I had a great New Years weekend. On Friday afternoon all the kids came over so we could have our Christmas. It was lots of fun and we all ate a ton of food. We had steak, shrimp and lobster. It was all so good. Christa decided that she needed some models for her scarfs she is making for her Makin'-It-Mama  site so she had a photo shoot with Cassie. She also made me put on one of her scarfs and model it for her. She is doing a great job on everything she is making and is getting lots of sales.

Saturday we got up and met a bunch of Waseca Archery Club  people and went to a half and half shoot in Winnebago. There was 10 of us that went. It was lots of fun and everyone shot good. We have a lot of new members in the club this year and it is fun to have them come along to the shoots. After we shot we went to a cafe in Winnebago and had a great lunch. By the time we got back to town it was late afternoon so we decided it was really to late to get anything done so we went to Owatonna so we could go to Fleet Farm and get some dog food. Well we go there at 5:20 only to find out it closed at 5:00. So we came home with no dog food but we did stop at Cash Wise and Kohls for a few things.

Sunday was a do nothing day since it was New Years Day. We went to Mankato and I got a new light weight winter/spring jacket. Then we came home and watched a couple of Movies and just enjoyed the day.

Monday Rick had to go back to work but I had the day off. I had a ton of stuff to get done since I did not do it all weekend. I managed to get all my laundry done, pay the bills, get the house clean, run two miles, go to Walmart, clean the storage room, clean Ricks shop and make supper. I needed another day off!

Tuesday it was back to work for me. I was not ready to be back. All the students are now back on campus so I had lots of parking stuff to get done. We had some excitement in the afternoon when a student forgot to put his truck in park and it rolled into the lake. He took it pretty well considering his truck was now totaled. The tow truck driver had to call the dive team in to get it out of the water. Glad I do not have to pay the bill for that! After work we had our annual meeting at the WAC. We wanted to shoot while we were there but the meeting went to long. By the time we got home it was almost 9:00 and I was ready for bed.

Wednesday was another busy work day but uneventful.   After work I picked up Liam, Josie and Eli from daycare. I only had them for just under an hour so we did not even have time to get any toys out. I had wanted to go shoot last night but I was tired from being up late on Tuesday night so I just did the dishes and sat on the couch.

So that brings me to today. I am working again, well really I am updating this......
